Hello Neighbor VR: Search and Rescue, the survival horror and puzzle VR experience from developer Steel Wool Studios and publisher tinyBuild, has delayed the PSVR1 release until September 21st, 2023.
The announcement was posted today via a new tweet, where the devs have cited the need to focus on “optimization and performance”. No specifics were given, but the delay isn’t especially drastic, so it may very well involve minor fixes.
Hello Neighbor VR: Search and Rescue recently launched in May 2023 and is available now on Steam and Meta Quest platforms. To review what sets this VR title apart, you can watch the original reveal trailer from tinyBuild’s YouTube channel:
Hello Neighbor VR: Search and Rescue has plenty of atmosphere, and although the world feels tamer, it’s still fairly suspenseful thanks to elements of stealth and some creative VR interactions. Those who enjoy the mythology will likely enjoy exploring and sneaking around this world.
The major drawback that has burdened fans, however, is the technical side of things. VR mechanics have always been a little troublesome, often involving some stiff controls. But Hello Neighbor VR: Search and Rescue has an especially divisive track record of compromising bugs.
So, although PlayStation fans might be disappointed about today’s announcement, a delay is probably worth the wait. It might have even been beneficial for the devs to delay on all platforms.
Ideally, the PlayStation version will take advantage of the opportunity and smooth out some of the problems that fans have already mentioned. Despite their tweet, the devs didn’t actually elaborate in their Discord channel. But they did remind fans that the PlayStation version will be a “cross-buy” deal, so buying either the PSVR1 or PSVR2 versions will include both.
