Hootle Tips & Strategy
- Open With Common Letters: A first guess packed with frequent letters like E, A, R, S, T, L and O rules in or out the most of the alphabet in one turn.
- Think Everyday Words: Hootle’s answers are familiar words rather than obscure ones. Past answers include COMET, CLINK and STOMP.
- Build On Every Guess: Keep the letters you’ve found and drop the ones you’ve ruled out. A guess that reuses a dead letter wastes part of a turn.
- Don’t Forget Double Letters: A letter can appear twice, as in GLOSS. If you’re running out of options, try repeating a letter you’ve already found.
- Save a Turn for Checking: When two or three words still fit, a guess that tests their differing letters can be smarter than guessing one of them outright.
