Do You See Sparky?, an upcoming social deduction horror game from developer and publisher Clapperheads, has just been announced with a new trailer featuring tense cinematics and gameplay. A release window hasn’t been confirmed yet, but horror fans can wishlist the game on Steam now. Here’s the full trailer from Clapperheads’ official YouTube channel:
There are more than a few social deduction games out there, but Do You See Sparky? has found enough playful twists to stand out.
Often times, it can be enough to simply have a creative and instantly recognizable antagonist. And the art design is fairly compelling, with an offbeat cartoonish simplicity that is more detailed than it seems. But the core mechanics in Do You See Sparky? are also driven by a very catchy gimmick.
Players will need to figure out who is “marked”, but the victim will be able to pass the mark along from one teammate to another, if they can remain undetected. Meanwhile, the goal is to catch Sparky, an enemy who boasts the same kind of contrast from Poppy’s Playtime, where something that should be innocent is actually corrupted and evil.
Do You See Sparky? also includes plenty of post-death mechanics, which has become obligatory for the genre. Otherwise, the game becomes pointless for unlucky players, and it can be very discouraging for newcomers.
According to the game’s official Steam page, players can help captured teammates, or even rescue themselves “with the power of your mind”. Spectators who would ordinarily be out of play can also continue to help their teammates.
Gameplay mechanics like smartwatch interactions and semi-random environments are definitely going to distinguish this game, and push the genre forward. Fundamental details like the abandoned children’s camp setting are just plain clever.
