Dwarf Fortress is one of the most advanced colony simulators to ever be released on Steam, with development not slowing down any time soon. Part of experiencing the world in this game is to make sure that your settlement can not only survive, but thrive and grow. Part of this will be that you’ll have to draw in new groups of people known as Migrants into your settlement.
These new settlers will be essential to growing your fortress, and more importantly, your workforce. Here’s all the information you need to know about how to attract migrant groups to your settlement in Dwarf Fortress.
How do I get more Migrants in Dwarf Fortress?
One of the more reliable ways to get Migrants is to grow your fortress naturally, which will cause a new group to arrive once per season. Be warned that this means you’ll need to constantly update the quarters to house more and more new Dwarves.
The groups that arrive follow a certain schedule where a certain amount will come, this includes two to 10 in the earlier seasons and a larger group coming the second spring at the start of the second year. These groups will usually contain a collection of people with random skills alongside some domesticated animals.
The migrants that show up at your base will vary from craftspeople to major historical figures that your complex world generated. Keeping stock and knowledge of the most useful characters in your settlement will be the key to making your settlement flow seamlessly. Especially if you get Dwarves that have a unique skill you don’t have, new groups of Migrants are essential.
If you don’t have enough beds for the Dwarves shortly after moving in, you’ll find that your new group of Migrants is quickly upset. You’ll also need to upscale your food and alcohol production to ensure that your Dwarves don’t starve or get sober.
That’s all the information you need to know about attracting more migrants in the game. Be sure to head to the Dwarf Fortress section of our website for more detailed guides.
