It’s hard to believe that after a year since the release of PS5 and Xbox Series X and both consoles remain elusive and hard-to-find for lots of folks. The reality is that there remains a chip shortage and issues in the supply chain as well as shipping delays, which has made the supply even less than either company would want. As a result, scalpers are even more incentivized to scoop up what inventory does get released so they can charge upwards of double.
The key is to sign-up for stock notifications, whether you do so through a retailer or keep an eye on restock information on sites like ours.
One easy way to keep track of whether the product you want is in stock is by using something like RestockTracker, which allows you to sign-up for notifications for any product and from what retailers (depending on what’s available to you).
Once you know of a restock, here are our best tips for securing your console:
- Make sure you already have an account registered with a saved address and payment method. Every detail that can be prefilled makes it faster to checkout, as often retailers do not reserve inventory just because it’s in your cart — it’s about when you’ve finished making payment that the product is actually yours.
- You may have to experiment to see whether mobile or desktop offers a more streamlined experience, but we have found that desktop often allows for greater flexibility in refreshing, opening new windows, etc. It is often worth having both the mobile app open as well as your desktop, as you never know which one might get through.
- We have also noticed that keeping an eye out on Twitter to see who else is scoring a PS5 is a good measure of when a restock is happening that might have been unannounced.
