Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (BDSP) are now available for the Nintendo Switch, and with their release comes a variety of interesting challenges and questions for players. While the games are fairly straight-forward, some of the new mechanics and fun aspects of them can be a bit tricky! If you’re wondering how you can break rocks in the games, then we will show you how in this guide.
Breaking Rocks in BDSP
The ability to break rocks is required to get through certain areas of the game, most notably in caves where you will come across small boulders that can be broken. The move you need is Rock Smash, which is an HM that will allow you to break these obstacles.
To get Rock Smash, you will need to head through Route 203, which should be just after Jubilife City. When you enter the cave on Route 203, you will come across a hiker at the entrance. He will tell you that you need to earn the first Gym Badge to learn Rock Smash. Head through the cave and into Oreburgh City. Go through the story of finding the Gym Leader and then beating the Gym to earn the badge.
Once you have the first Gym Badge, you will then be able to head back to the man in the cave on Route 203 and he will give you the Rock Smash ability.
You do not need to give the Rock Smash ability to another Pokemon, you will be able to use it yourself. Keep in mind that you can only smash small boulders that can be interacted with. You will come across quite a few other larger rocks that will not be able to be broken!
