Pokemon Legends: Arceus is a fresh take on the well-known Pokemon franchise that has been around for many years. There’s quite a few interesting new additions in this game, and that includes a variety of things that will be unfamiliar to the player. As you travel around the map, you might find yourself blocked by some large boulders that clearly can be broken. Unfortunately, there’s no real tutorial about these in the game. While that might be the case, we know how to knock those rocks out of the way and will teach you what to do in this guide.

Smashing Boulders

To break rocks in Pokemon Legends Arceus, you will need to throw a Pokemon nearby the boulder that can learn the move Rock Smash. It doesn’t have to have the move equipped, but it appears it just needs to get it eventually.

I have tested Rhydon, Gastrodon, Geodude, Graveler, and Golem, which can all smash rocks that act as obstacles in your exploration. When you break some huge boulders, you will get some Iron Chunks, which makes it worth your while to smash down some rocks. I would guess that just about every Rock-type Pokemon will be capable of this ability.

Breaking down rocks isn’t exactly necessary, because once you have your mount Pokemon you can pretty much move around the obstacle that is blocking your path. I wasn’t aware of the rock breaking ability until late in the game and it never got in the way of my progress!

It appears once you smash the boulders they will not respawn again at that location. So, you can’t really use this as a method to farm Iron Chunks unfortunately.

That’s everything you need to know about breaking rocks in Pokemon Legends: Arceus! You will find a variety of informative content on the game in the Pokemon Arceus section of our website.
