Ditto is a very well-known Pokemon in the world of the games and anime. It also servers a particularly useful purpose in the flagship games due to its ability to breed with other Pokemon and get you maximum IVs for your newly spawned eggs. In Pokemon Go, however, it isn’t as useful but is needed to complete challenges and Special Research tasks. Catching Ditto
To catch a Ditto in Pokemon Go, you will need to catch a Pokemon that Ditto is disguising itself as currently. This is a set list of Pokemon that can be caught and will have a small chance to be a Ditto. All you need to do is catch one of the disguised Pokemon, and after it was caught it will reveal that it was a Ditto!
The current list of Pokemon that you can catch that will possibly be Ditto are:
- Ekans
- Gastly
- Natu
- Surskit
- Finneon
- Lillipup
- Dwebble
- Swirlix
Each time you catch one of these Pokemon, you have a small chance that it will end up a Ditto. You will not learn that it is a Ditto until after you catch it! As soon as the PokeBall stops moving, you will get an alert and the Pokemon you caught will then transform into Ditto.
There’s no real way to know if the Pokemon you are catching is a Ditto, but if it is generally easy to catch and giving you trouble while trying to nab it then it might be a Ditto. The Ditto has a lower catch rate than some of the Pokemon it is disguised as, which makes it more difficult to catch. That means you might want to try a bit harder to catch that average Pokemon if it’s giving you trouble!
Shiny Ditto
It is possible to catch Shiny Ditto in Pokemon Go after an update in September 2021. Each time you catch a normal Pokemon from the disguise list, you have a chance at the Ditto being shiny. However, if the Pokemon you encounter is shiny itself, there’s NO chance that it will be a Ditto. So, don’t worry that you might lose a shiny Pokemon because of it transforming into Ditto.
