Sea of Thieves has been out for nearly four years now and draws tens of thousands of concurrent players on Steam. The game has added lots of mystery and adventure over the years, always bringing fans back with the promise of more treasure. While Sea of Thieves might be saying goodbye to the arena mode, the people at Rare are still cooking up new ways to surprise players. The latest update brought a time-limited adventure called Shrouded Islands: a narrative-focused event meant to make the open seas a more dynamic place.
In this guide, we’ll teach you how to find the Hexing Skull and Rune Tablets for Belle. But, first, you should begin the adventure by talking to Larinna outside any tavern.
Shrouded Island Sea of Thieves Guide
After you accept the adventure, you’ll get a letter telling you to go to Golden Sands, which will be covered in a mysterious green fog. First, you should head to the tavern and grab the Mysterious Compass sitting on one of the tables. Next, you’ll need to follow the compass, talk to Belle, and collect the Flame of Souls into your lantern from her brazier.

Next, Belle’ll direct you to Shipwreck Bay, which could be as far as half the map away. Since you’ll have some time to travel, light your ship’s lanterns with the flame you got from Belle. This will ensure that you won’t have to travel back to continue the mission even if you die. Like every island before, Shipwreck Bay will also be surrounded by fog, so move slowly as you get closer to the island.
When you get to the island, you should see a bunch of apparitions pointing in different directions. If you can follow where they’re directing, you’ll find eight different Braziers that you have to light with the Flame of Souls. It also helps to know that all the braziers are outside the island, meaning that you could follow the coast and find roughly all of the braziers. What’s not immediately apparent will still be pointed to by the ghosts.
Every time you light a brazier, enemies will spawn for you to defeat, and they may even drop loot. Once you’ve lit all eight braziers, head over to the large shipwreck in the center of the island. Light a makeshift brazier near the cannons, which will spawn a boss called Soulflame Captain. It’s best to deal him damage at a range due to his super-strong melee attack.
Once you beat him, it will spawn a Buried Relic Map that will take you to an island in the Wilds. Follow the map, and you’ll find a Hexing Skull and potentially some Rune Tablets. You can sell all this loot to Belle back at Crescent Isle. That’s all you need to know about how to finish the Shrouded Island quest in Sea of Thieves.
