How to get Softener
To get Softener, you will need to merge several Detergent items. Softener is Level 5 of Detergent merge stages. Detergent has a chance to drop from the Broom Cabinet (Level 5 and higher). As you get Detergent items, you will then follow this merge chain: Toothpaste merged to create Soap, then merged to create Liquid Soap, then merged to create Power Detergent, then merged to create Softener.
