In Minecraft, you will be building and creating a variety of different looks to your creations throughout the game. If you have a specific theme or you are looking to add a bit more of a lived in vibe to your next build, then you might want some blocks with a bit more detail. This is where something like the Recovery Compass comes into play! We’ll guide you through the process of creating one of these in our easy to follow step-by-step guide.
It is important to note that the Recovery Compass can only currently be created in the Java Edition 1.19 development version, which means you will not find it in fully released versions of the game.
Creating a Recovery Compass
To make a Recovery Compass in Minecraft, you will first need a regular compass and eight Echo Shards. When you’ve gathered those ingredients, you can place them in a crafting table and craft the Recovery Compass!
First thing to do is make the regular Compass. All you need is four Iron Ingots and one piece of Redstone Dust. Place the dust in the center of your crafting table, and place one of each of the Iron Ingots above, below, and to the left and right of it.
Now comes the difficult part, you will need to trackdown a new resource known as the Echo Shard. This can only be found in the Deep Dark biome in an Ancient City. If you can locate a chest in this area, you have a chance to obtain Echo Shards inside of them. This is obviously a dangerous place due to all of the Sculk and the possibility of spawning a Warden! It might end up being worth the risk, because not only can you get Echo Shards, you also have a chance to get some Diamond Armor!
When you’ve managed to locate the eight total Echo Shards, you can make your Recovery Compass! Just place the regular Compass in the middle of your Crafting Table and surround it with the Echo Shards.
The Recovery Compass is a nice little device because it will allow you to trackdown the location of where you last died. If you aren’t using mods, you probably know how it can be difficult to backtrack to the location where you reached your demise. This will allow you to more easily find the location, and grab all of that loot you dropped!
