It’s not uncommon for games like Minecraft to leave you speechless from some of the creations you’ll see. Even when you can make such stunning constructions, many buildings end up looking a little weird when there isn’t any glass. Once you’ve gotten acclimated to the basics of building and have made yourself a few structures, you may end up wanting to make them more realistic by adding something like glass windows. If you find yourself in this situation, then no worries! This problem can easily be overcome once you know how to make glass in Minecraft!
Creating Glass
Time needed: 10 minutes.
To make glass in Minecraft, you need to find either sand or red sand and take it to a furnace. Either of these types of sand will work and they both produce the same type of glass, so just grab what’s closest to you. Once you have your sand and furnace, you’ll also need a fuel source to make sure your furnace is able to complete this task. When you’ve gathered all your ingredients and equipment, you’ll be all ready to make your own glass in Minecraft!
- Find Sand
You’ll need 1 block of sand (or red sand) for each glass block you want to make. With such low crafting requirements, it won’t be too difficult to make all the glass you need even if you want to make a whole house of it! One of the best places to grab tons of sand is on the shores and floors of large bodies of water. Head to the nearest lake, river, or ocean to gather all the sand you’ll need to make glass.
- Find Fuel
The furnace you’ll be using to craft glass in Minecraft requires a fuel source in order to function. Fortunately, there are multiple materials in the game that can be used as fuel, and many of them are readily available in a variety of biomes. One of the most readily available materials that can be used for fuel is wood or logs that can be harvested from trees. Logs can be used to create Charcoal, which will burn much longer than the wood itself. If you happen to be in a treeless area or would prefer a more efficient fuel source, you can also use other materials like coal, lava, or even dried up kelp blocks! The amount of fuel you need depends on the type you choose, but approximately 1 wood is required for every 1.5 blocks of sand you smelt in case you decide to use wood as fuel.
- Make Glass
Head to a furnace after you’ve gathered your materials. In order to make glass, place at least 1 block of sand (or red sand) in the top box and your fuel source in the lower box. The flames will begin to churn, indicating the sand is being smelted, then you’ll be treated to a fresh piece of glass in a few moments. Both the fuel and the starting material can be stacked up to 64 blocks each, so you can load it up and come back in a few minutes if you prefer to mass produce glass. These are the basics of how to make glass in Minecraft, but do you want to take your glass crafting even further?
- Make Stained Glass
There’s nothing wrong with making plain glass in Minecraft. In fact, regular glass is the single missing touch many good structures need to become great. Despite how useful vanilla glass can be, there are some creative needs that call for an option like stained glass. Luckily, stained glass is just a simple step away once you know how to make glass in Minecraft. Simply take 8 blocks of glass to a crafting table and arrange them around any color dye in the center of the crafting grid. Doing this will provide you with a block of stained glass in the color you selected!
- Make Glass Panes
There’s no cause for concern if glass bricks aren’t what you want or if you want more glass for your effort. If you find yourself in these situations, maybe making glass panes can help you out. Glass panes can be easily produced from glass blocks using a crafting table. Better yet, you get out more than you put in! To make glass panes in Minecraft, simply take 6 glass blocks to a crafting table and arrange them in the crafting grid with 3 on the top row and 3 in the middle row. Doing this will provide you with 16 glass panes. Now you know how to make glass no matter your needs!
