Pugstorm’s Core Keeper is an indie adventure that’s sold hundreds of thousands of copies in its first week. Players worldwide are hopping into the underground to power up the Core and go further. However, a base can get pretty lonely if you’re playing alone.

How to Recruit NPCs in Core Keeper
To get the Merchant NPCs in Core Keeper, you’ll need to defeat the bosses Ghorm the Devourer and Glurch the Abominous Mass. They will both drop items that you’ll need to place in a room back at your base. Once you’ve created a space with all the requirements, the NPC should spawn after some time.

You’ll need the Mystery Idol and Slime Oil to recruit the merchants to recruit the NPCs. After you have these items, you’ll need to build an 8×8 room for the merchant to live in. Currently, only wooden doors work for NPCs, but Pugstorm will fix this in the future. Rooms that are any bigger than 8×8 may not work as habitable.
You’ll also need to ensure that you have a bed that a player or another NPC doesn’t occupy. Each NPC must have its dedicated room and bed. Once the room is built, leave the item you got from the boss in the room. Then you’ll have to be at least 30 tiles away from the room for the merchant to spawn. If you continue exploring after you build the room, it should have generated by the time you get back.
Since it’s just an NPC, you can always make their room out of wood, which is pretty easy to stockpile and doesn’t require special tools. However, defeating each of the world bosses will be a challenge, and you may need to wait until you’ve advanced a little further.
The Bearded Merchant will sell you basic materials like ores, larva meat, slime, and more. You can summon him by using the slime oil that you receive from the giant slime boss. The Caveling Merchant will sell you equipment, items to call bosses, materials, and more. You can summon him by defeating the giant worm that’s circling a large portion of the map.
