Blade Ball recently introduced an intriguing ability called Martyrdom, a unique passive ability that’s interesting, to say the least, as it activates upon a rather unusual trigger: your in-game death. But wait, doesn’t dying mean you’re out of the match? Use this guide to understand what Martyrdom is and how to use it.

Blade Ball Martyrdom – How to Use It

Firstly, Martyrdom is not used for winning; it’s used for vengeance, a way to get kills slowly, and light-hearted trolling in Blade Ball. Martyrdom is a passive ability, which means you cannot activate it in a match, so don’t bother tapping Q hoping for something to happen. It’ll only activate upon a specific trigger, your death.

When you have Martyrdom equipped, and you meet your demise in the game, Martyrdom kicks in, targeting the player responsible for your demise with the ball while also applying a debuff to them, and this currently is an almost guaranteed kill.

Here is the official description from Blade Ball:

  • (PASSIVE) Explode into a burst of energy on death and force the ball to target and debuff your killer.

This makes Martyrdom an effective tool, especially if you’re still getting the hang of the game or need to complete specific objectives like daily quests for killing opponents. It’s a way to ensure almost a guaranteed kill in every match, albeit slowly.

You can also think of Martyrdom as your last laugh in tight situations. For instance, in a heated triple fight where you’re vying to be in the last two standing, if you get taken out, Martyrdom will most likely take down your eliminator. This often leads to the third player winning, making Martyrdom a tool for sweet revenge.

Equipping Martyrdom usually means one of three things: either you’re not the best player and are looking for a reliable way to score a kill, or you’re in it for some mischievous fun, hindering those who take you down from winning. Or you’re confident enough in your skills to win without an ability to help you.

Is Martyrdom Good?

Answering whether Martyrdom is a good ability is tricky. It’s a ‘yes and no’ situation. As a standalone ability, Martyrdom doesn’t compare to skill-based abilities like Dribble or Quantum Arena. It’s more of a gimmick than anything else. However, when used as a tool for vengeance, to thwart the player who eliminated you, it shines in a different light. For 4,000 coins, if your goal is to disrupt the game for your eliminator or ensure they don’t have an easy win, Martyrdom can be considered a worthy investment.
