Protodroid DeLTA, an upcoming fast-paced solarpunk platformer from developer Adam Kareem and publisher Humble Games, will officially be delayed. Protodroid DeLTA was previously supposed to launch on April 27th, 2023, and a new date hasn’t been revealed. It will be available on PC, the Nintendo Switch, and last-gen consoles for PlayStation and Xbox.

Humble Games has cited the need for “a little bit of extra time” to add some “finishing touches”. Notably, today’s announcement also mentions the goal of releasing properly on every platform, so it’s possible the delay is simply the result of porting issues.

Either way, the delay isn’t expected to take long, and a new release date is expected to be announced within weeks. Here’s the full statement from the Humble Games Twitter feed:

Protodroid DeLTA recently picked up steam after it was featured in IGN Fan Fest 2023, and viewers were immediately enamored with the 3D twist on classic Mega Man visuals. For some actual gameplay to consider, here’s the IGN Fan Fest trailer from February:

The game proudly flaunts the influence of Mega Man X on its Twitter page. However, it still expands on those ideas, using 3D settings to its advantage, and it does not rely on nostalgia alone.

The art design wears its budget on its sleeve, but the world of Protodroid DeLTA is bright and colorful, a good fit for the energetic gameplay. The stages, enemies, and bosses are all distinguishable, and the freedom to pursue them in any order is a relief.

Although the mechanics seem relatively simple, the game owns that. There’s plenty of interesting lore, creative worlds, and unapologetic speed, which should be more than enough for fans of the genre.
