Being an indie developer is a difficult journey that only the brave dare take on. Between competition, finding resources, and the actual development, there are a million things that could go wrong. However, it becomes all that much harder when you’re trying to deliver something to an audience that doesn’t always appreciate the game.
In a recent announcement on its official Twitter, Hypercharge Unboxed shared a statement addressing the toxic behavior it had been receiving from players and other people online. Joe, who pinned the letter and handles all of the marketing, says that the team has been receiving a lot of hate about the game’s potential upcoming release on Xbox.
Joe states that while they have been in contact with Xbox, they’re unable to give a release date. He also mentions that Xbox has been nothing but supportive, but it will take time to get the game on Xbox. The toxicity that the devs experience from fans won’t make the game come any faster and it may slow it due to the mental strain it poses on the developers.
Joe doubled down on expressing how upset he was with the toxicity in a thread following the original message. In a short video message, he states that putting this insane pressure on the developers will not result in a game that comes out any sooner. He even goes a step further to say that anyone who does put that kind of pressure on the devs isn’t any fan that the Hypercharge team wants.
In the video, Joe makes it clear that the constant harassment has made it hard to work on the game at times. That being said, he and the team are happy for the love that they’ve gotten from real fans of the game. But those who are pressuring the Hypercharge team aren’t welcome and are hurting the game they want to release so bad.
