Block ‘Em, an upcoming puzzle platformer game from developer Cat Shawl Games, has just revealed that it will officially launch on March 8th, 2023. It will be available on Steam, and support for other platforms has not been confirmed at this time. Alongside today’s announcement, publisher Curve Games released a new gameplay trailer, which you can watch on their YouTube channel here:

Today’s new trailer for Block ‘Em may be brief, but it packs in so much gameplay, likely reflecting the pace of the game. The art design is so cheerful and adorable that everything looks like a world of candy. The levels and characters pop right off the screen, and even the animations have personality.

The mechanics borrow elements from a variety of familiar titles. There’s a taste of Tetris in its blocky puzzles and simplicity. Fans may also be reminded of Fall Guys, since players will need to reach a goal or be the last one standing according to Block ‘Em’s official Steam page. The art style somewhat resembles Fall Guys’ colorful arcade world too, though the characters are more like gumdrops than beans.

There is also the competitive approach of Gang Beasts, where players actively need to outmaneuver or sabotage their opponents. These are all great mechanics, and if Block ‘Em can simply launch without technical issues, it should be a charming hit.

The game seems relatively straightforward, which is essential for party games. That way, chaos can ensue without becoming incomprehensible, and the controls will be friendly enough for anyone to play. The tone is already accessible, too.

The only other game from Cat Shawl Games is Ooglians, which released last December to divisive reviews. Fortunately, today’s trailer for Block ‘Em looks more refined, interesting, and promising.
