Project Downfall, the action-adventure indie from developers MGP Studios and Solid9 Studio, has just revealed it will arrive on the Nintendo Switch sometime soon. An exact release date has not been confirmed.

Project Downfall originally got a full release in December 2022 and is available now on PC, where you can try a playable demo on Steam. You can watch today’s new teaser trailer on publisher RedDeerGames’ YouTube channel:

The devs have proudly flaunted the influence of John Wick with Project Downfall, and the in-game references are certainly blatant. The John Wick franchise has continued to earn legions of fans with its latest and satisfying epic, and as that universe expands, interest will definitely be renewed for Project Downfall.

However, players have noted that it’s probably more akin to Hotline Miami with an FPS approach. Fortunately, Project Downfall generally succeeds at these ideas, and avoids becoming another Hotline clone that relies on theme alone.

Project Downfall brings a futurist twist, with carefully detailed and expansive lore. It presents a cynical and violent world with radically changing rulers, and the protagonist is a brutal vigilante. There are also a dozen different endings, and even a sanity system, both of which help with the replay value.

The gameplay loop is relatively straightforward with a relentless, retro arcade style. This should translate well for playing Project Downfall on the go with the Nintendo Switch.

But some fans might be concerned about the controls and balancing, which can be a little divisive. It also happens to be pretty challenging, since it moves quickly and punishes harshly. For example, it doesn’t offer the opportunity to recover your health.

Either way, Project Downfall is a dazzling, frantic action indie that will likely thrive on other consoles, so hopefully there will be a PlayStation and Xbox port coming soon.
