Flooded, an upcoming indie city builder from developer and publisher Artificial Disasters, will now launch on April 12th, 2023. It will be available on PC via Steam and GOG. The delay comes shortly after announcing a March release date, and the devs have cited the need to add more content based on testing feedback. Here’s the full statement from Flooded’s Twitter feed:
A full blog post from the devs has carefully noted that Flooded has only been delayed for the newly announced content, and doesn’t need any other kind of polishing. Also, the new content was only inspired by the most recent round of testing. So, it doesn’t seem that the April release date will fall through, too.
Although the delay is surely frustrating for some, particularly when the release date was only just announced a couple of weeks ago, indie games really need a smooth launch to establish goodwill.
The devs were honest about their reasons, and actually confirmed a brand-new release date, when there are many titles that delay their launch indefinitely, and rarely communicate with their fanbase enough. So, interested fans of the genre should be pretty supportive.
Besides, Flooded is already a pretty ambitious indie, and deserves the opportunity. There are so many mechanics that altering anything this late in the development process would definitely need some careful balancing, in relation to other aspects of the game.
The premise of Flooded is that players must build their city quickly enough to escape a shrinking island, all the while dealing with other obstacles like enemy attacks. There are some very clever additions to the genre, which has been very busy lately, so Flooded is sure to stand out.
