TOHO animation just announced that an anime adaptation of Science Fantasy manga, Kaiju No. 8, is in the works!
Kaiju No. 8 or Monster No. 8, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto. On July 3, 2020, the series was first published on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ mobile application and website. Currently, Shonen Jump has collected Kaiju No. 8’s chapters into seven individual volumes. Since August 2020, Kaiju No. 8 has a scheduled release of a new chapter every three consecutive weeks followed by a one-week break.
In Kaiju No. 8, grotesque creatures known as Kaiju have been terrorizing Japan, making it the leading country in the number of Kaiju incidents. An elite military organization, otherwise known as Defense Corps, was formed to combat the Kaijus. Meanwhile, another unit, known as “sweepers”, works under the Professional Kaiju Cleaner Corporation and is tasked with cleaning the remains of defeated Kaijus. The protagonist, Kafka Hibino, is a sweeper of Kaiju remains who is unhappy and worn out with his profession and actually dreamed to join the Defense Corps. However, numerous futile efforts by Kafka to join the Defense Corps have led him to abandon his dream. Meanwhile, an ambitious recruit named Leno Ichikawa joins Kafka in the cleaning team.

Unexpectedly, as Kafka and Leno were doing their duties, a Kaiju attempted to attack Leno. Fortunately, Kafka was able to prevent the Kaiju from devouring Leno. After a series of unfortunate events, Kafka and Leno were taken to the hospital. There, Kafka met a parasite-type Kaiju that forced itself into his mouth and transformed him into a humanoid monster. As Kafka gained a new ability, he longed to pursue his ambition of joining the Defense Corps once again.
TOHO animation, a well-known distributor of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie, has just revealed that an anime adaptation of Kaiju No. 8 will begin airing in the near future. An announcement teaser has also been posted to the TOHO animations YouTube Channel. The teaser depicts a monochromatic version of Japan and includes probable dialogues from the anime and a thrilling soundtrack.
