King of the Castle, an upcoming party strategy indie, has just released a brand-new trailer announcing that it will launch on March 2nd, 2023. King of the Castle asks players to guide a fantasy kingdom through various tough decisions, and two different co-op modes allow guests to participate in those choices. So, the entire premise is built on the amusing chaos of party game mechanics.

In fact, up to three thousand guest players can participate via streamer mode, a comically ambitious feature. For local games, the official Steam page notes that up to 24 guests can join in directly through a web browser.

Unfortunately, that could make it difficult to enjoy the game on its own, so you’ll have to get a group together every time you play to really make the most of it.

King of the Castle is completely Twitch-integrated, but this probably isn’t the title you’ll build your audience with. You’ll likely need some established fans. It remains to be seen if King of the Castle can blow up the way it means to.

The graphics in King of the Castle aren’t especially interesting, and definitely have the feel of a mobile gimmick. But the content itself could be fun, with a surprising variety of choices and consequences. So, even though players have a lot of freedom to be silly or cruel, at least it still matters.

Team17 has been a very reliable publisher, with titles such as Worms and Overcooked, and they’re willing to boost even the smallest burgeoning devs. So, they’ve established a lot of trust, and King of the Castle does have potential.
