The upcoming game, “Kingdom Eighties: Summer of Greed”, developed by Fury Studios, is scheduled to release on PC via Steam on June 26. Additional versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch will be launched at a future date, as per the latest announcement.
Set in a summer camp, “Kingdom Eighties: Summer of Greed” is a novel standalone title in the Kingdom series, which has been lauded for its innovative micro-strategy gameplay. The game is an ode to the nostalgia of the ’80s – bike rides, summer camps, and lazy Saturday mornings spent in front of the TV.
The narrative centers around The Leader, a young camp counselor, who must safeguard their family and the entire town from the relentless onslaught of a mysterious entity known as the Greed. The Leader will be aided by a group of neighborhood kids and new companions: The Champ, the Tinkerer, and the Wiz, each offering unique abilities and support in battle. The unfolding mystery of the Crown of Creation and the Greed’s obsession with it forms the crux of the story.
While it caters to both series veterans and newcomers, “Kingdom Eighties: Summer of Greed” retains core mechanics from the Kingdom series and brings in a new storytelling element. Players recruit neighborhood kids, assigning them roles as builders or soldiers, to expand their territory and unearth secrets linked to the Greed, the Crown of Creation, and their family lineage.
The game lays emphasis on unity and camaraderie, as it portrays the narrative of four unlikely heroes and their burgeoning friendship. As The Leader, players are entrusted with the safety of the town, with The Champ, The Tinkerer, and The Wiz providing assistance through their distinct skills.
The gameplay goes beyond the summer camp and introduces players to a variety of fresh locations unseen in previous Kingdom series installments. Players can explore the skateboard park, visit the shops on Main Street, and liberate the New Lands Mall from the control of the Greed. The journey through these locations is depicted in Kingdom’s distinctive pixel art style, contributing to the game’s overall charm.
