Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, the highly anticipated remake of Nintendo’s classic, has just released a new “Welcome to Merry Magoland” trailer featuring gameplay from a variety of sub-games. This includes the new additions that will help encourage longtime fans to revisit the original content.
Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on February 24th, 2023. Here’s the new trailer from Nintendo’s official YouTube channel:
Today’s trailer revealed quite a lot of footage for returning sub-games, a beloved tradition of the Kirby franchise. There are more than a few obscure sub-games, even including a glimpse of Samurai Kirby, which released in Kirby Super Star back in the late 90’s.
Since Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe is already inspired by nostalgia, it’s nice to see them dig up some less obvious sub-games. It’ll be strange to have everything grouped into this new amusement park-style environment. But there’ll still be plenty to do, including a variety of collection and prize tracks.
But the highlight today was surely Booming Blasters, a new sub-game that basically amounts to laser tag, and fortunately it supports up to four players.
Booming Blasters isn’t radically different for the franchise, but it is still pretty refreshing, as it promises a faster pace than some more casual sub-games in the series. The footage today reveals that players get to level up during the game and acquire massive weapon blasts.
Overall, today’s trailer continues to reinforce just how charming and creative the Kirby franchise can be. It’s a solid selection of sub-games, and seeing some of those classics restored is just as neat as the Deluxe remake itself.
