PlayStation has just released a brand-new trailer for Kizuna AI: Touch the Beat!, an upcoming rhythm game featuring popular VTuber Kizuna Al. It is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 on February 22nd, 2023, and PlayStation 4 on April 27th, 2023.
The PlayStation 5 version will also support the upcoming PS VR2 system, and both launches are expected to coincide. You can check out some rhythm gameplay in PlayStation’s new trailer here:
It wouldn’t be very surprising if PlayStation capitalized on popular figures like Kizuna Al even more in the future, since their appearance is the biggest (if not only) distinguishing factor here. Fans should be pleased, certainly with View Mode letting players freely explore the stage. Of course, the VTuber landscape is constantly changing, and may be difficult to keep up with.
It is nice that the game will be available without the virtual reality technology, which is currently a niche scene due to high costs. But VR interaction is also one of the core reasons to actually play. Today’s new trailer does promise “powered up” graphics for the next-gen release though, and ideally that will compensate.
The rhythm genre may be evolving quickly, but PlayStation’s announcement also invited fans to speculate on the potential for other titles to receive a similar upgrade. There are definitely plenty of contenders if PlayStation wanted to invest.
It’s clear that they’ve already decided to release Kizuna AI: Touch the Beat! on PlayStation 5 first in order to prioritize the VR scene. Hopefully, they’ll select titles that justify fan investment.
After all, just yesterday PlayStation announced that Moss and Moss Book II would also line up with the launch of PlayStation’s VR2. Those are much more elaborate games, though it is also important to provide something for everyone.
