Knockout City, the deceptively competitive dodgeball action game from EA and Velan Studios, has consistently received decent reviews since launching in 2021. However, it’s still been somewhat overlooked, and it’s oddly neither a hidden gem nor a hit. But the gameplay loop is fun and creative, with colorful environments and fast-paced action.

Also, the game has had some surprising collaborations, one of which was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themselves last year. It’s been quite a wait for the villainous characters since then, but it looks like it was worthwhile.

Aside from simply adding Bebop and Rocksteady as playable characters, the AI Foot Clan soldiers will be a welcome addition to the game. The escalating difficulty is a nice touch, and the Foot Clan Clash Playlist is an innovative way to shake up the game without losing a sense of competition. According to today’s trailer description, players will also get to earn a Foot Soldier Outfit.

The turtles have made a remarkable comeback lately. This is largely due to the massive success of the instant classic and beat ’em up Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, as well as the pure nostalgia of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection.

It’s an instantly recognizable and playful IP that might just renew a little more interest in Knockout City again. The game might be somewhat middling, but it has tremendous potential.
