Although it has just been a week after Hideo Kojima confirmed at The Game Awards that a new Death Stranding video game is in the works, another recent news about a movie adaptation of the game has been revealed.
Death Stranding has established its place in gaming history over the years thanks to the several nominations and awards it has received, as well as the several critics who pointed out that the game’s narrative and gameplay were reminiscent of the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, fans were taken aback when Hideo Kojima presented a cinematic trailer for the upcoming Death Stranding sequel at The Game Awards 2022.
Hideo Kojima has always been outspoken about his passion for cinema as reflected in Death Stranding’s cinematic graphics. This also prompted some fans to question whether Hideo Kojima would ever develop a film in the future. Just recently, Deadline reported that Kojima Productions, in collaboration with Hammerstone Studios, is working on a Death Stranding film adaptation. The movie will be entirely financed by Hammerstone Studios, while Hideo Kojima and Lebovici will act as producers under their labels. The Los Angeles branch of Kojima Productions and Allan Ungar will serve as executive producers.
As of now, very little to no official details have been disclosed concerning the upcoming film adaptation of Death Stranding. Furthermore, while the Death Stranding video game already has its cast of prominent Hollywood actors, such as Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley, it is still unknown whether the video game actors will reprise their roles in the film adaptation of Death Stranding.
Back in 2021, Kojima Productions established a division in Los Angeles, California, intended for distributing movies, television shows, and music. It appears that Kojima Productions’ plans are beginning to come together in light of the recent news on the movie adaptation of Death Stranding.
