League Of Legends Hints At Aatrox / Kayle Romance In New Skins

League of Legends adds another ship to their list of canon romance between champions, though not in the meta Leagueverse.
Aatrox Kayle Romance League

League of Legends has quite a few confirmed romantic pairings in-game, and even more created by the fanbase. Katarina Garen, Leona Diana, Rakan Xayah, and Lucian Senna are just a few of the canonized couples that receive a lot of love and attention from League’s large fanbase. With the release of the new Eclipse skins, we have one more pairing to add to that list.

That’s right, according to the bio of Eclipse Aatrox, this version of the Darkin Blade has feelings for Kayle. The bio, which could easily be missed by anyone not looking for it, reads,

“One of the few who took up the mantle of the Eclipse Knights in the days of old, Aatrox hopelessly pined for Kayle’s affections… but she could only ever love the blazing sun. When she devoured it, the entity’s lunar corona consumed him. He exists now as Kayle’s monstrous, once-noble shadow, ever at her side.”

This confirms not only that Eclipse Aatrox is in league with Suneater Kayle, but that he has his romantic feelings for her to blame for turning against the order of knights. While not actually together, this is more than enough for some to call the two a “ship”.

This is one I’m personally very excited for. While they could never work in their base skins, I and plenty of others have shipped Aatrox / Kayle for a long time, and its great to see the pairing exists in the mind of Riot’s staff too.

This isn’t the first bit of Aatrox / Kayle Riot has hinted at, with the now fandom-famous fist-bump scene from Ruin Rising being the first time Riot has acknowledged the fanbase’s perceived chemistry between the two.
