Legendary Hoplite, an upcoming Tower Defense RPG from developer TripleBricksGames, has released an official trailer today. Inspired by Greek mythology, Legendary Hoplite has no release window yet, but you can wishlist the game on Steam now. The Steam product page hints that it’s “coming soon”.

At this time, Legendary Hoplite is only expected to launch on PC, with no word on other platforms. Here is today’s new trailer from publisher Ravenage Games’ YouTube channel:

Legendary Hoplite’s new trailer looks very flashy, blending traditional Tower Defense and Action RPG mechanics, such as upgrading your warriors and battling escalating waves of enemies. Combat should certainly be a highlight of the game, given its setting.

Legendary Hoplite seems to have translated its theme in a simple but satisfying way, directly lifting imagery and creatures from Greek mythology and film adaptations. In fact, gameplay is centered on defending a gate in a choke point, so it really does call 300 to mind too.

It’s hardly revolutionary. But these elements should definitely please fans of the mythology and environment, since there were a lot of familiar faces in today’s trailer. The music and animations promise high-octane combat, with staples like area-of-effect or ranged attacks. The boss designs are perhaps the most innovative, since they’re more open to interpretation to begin with.

Overall, Legendary Hoplite looks perfectly fine, even if it seems a little straightforward, conceptually speaking. It’s sort of like a new cosmetic for the Action RPG and Tower Defense genres, and if you like the theme, it’ll certainly be a worthwhile investment. And, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

There might be more that the trailer hasn’t revealed yet, so it’s best to reserve judgement. Ravenage Games has built trust with their previous published titles, and recently added the creative gangster-themed indie Don Duality to their slate:
