LEVEL-5 just went live for their Vision 2023 Tsuzumi event to showcase all the upcoming titles by the Japanese developer. Among the highlights of the livestream is the teaser trailer for the upcoming Professor Layton and The New World of Steam.
The Professor Layton series originally follows the adventures of Professor Hershel Layton and his student Luke Triton, with the succeeding three games and film serving as prequels, focusing on how Luke and Layton met and their early adventures. Meanwhile, subsequent installments explore the adventures of Layton’s children and their many allies in both old and new locations.
The upcoming Professor Layton and The New World of Steam will be the eighth entry in the puzzle adventure game. It is also the seventh game to have Layton in a starring role. It was first announced during a Nintendo Direct in February 2023. Take a look at the Professor Layton and the New World of Steam Teaser Trailer, courtesy of LEVEL-5’s official Youtube channel:
According to the official Layton website, the eighth installment depicts the world one year after the events of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. The story takes place in Steam Bison, America, where the power of highly advanced steam engines has ushered in a new world, greatly surpassing even London’s technological development. An unexpected occurrence in Steam Bison kicks off a whole new journey for Professor Layton and Luke to go on together.
The teaser trailer also revealed that QuizKnock will be responsible for designing the puzzles in Professor Layton and The New World of Steam. QuizKnock is a Japanese group that specializes in creating puzzles and riddles for all kinds of media, combining the concept of entertainment and knowledge.
LEVEL-5 has clarified that Professor Layton and The New World of Steam is still under development. As such, it is likely that a specific release date will not be disclosed for some time.
You may add Professor Layton and The New World of Steam to your Nintendo eShop wishlist now to be notified when it becomes available.
