Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, the much-awaited spinoff to the Yakuza franchise developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega has been confirmed to launch later this year for PS4 and PS5. The official release date was announced alongside a fascinating new trailer showcased at the recent Summer Game Fest event.
Since it was initially revealed in September 2022 during a ‘Studio Summit’ presentation, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name has been generating excitement among Yakuza fans. Prior to the Summer Game Fest, reports began circulating when a listing on the PlayStation Store price tracking website, PSDeals, indicated a November 9th release date for the game. The information from this leak has now been verified, aligning with the official announcement made at the event.
Apart from the release date announcement, the trailer provided a sneak peek at Like a Dragon Gaiden‘s narrative and gameplay. As shown in the trailer, the once legendary yakuza, Kazuma Kiryu, will now embark on a new action-packed adventure under the codename “Joryu.” The leaked PlayStation Store listing further detailed the game’s narrative, revealing that Kiryu fakes his own death and abandons his name to protect his family, only to be drawn into conflict by a mysterious figure seeking to expose him. As Kiryu, players will navigate through a gripping action narrative, engaging in bone-shattering combat within vibrant locations teeming with intriguing characters and activities.
The description on PSDeals also disclosed an exciting gameplay feature of Like a Dragon Gaiden, in which players will have the ability to dynamically switch between the Yakuza and Agent fighting styles. With the Yakuza style, players can unleash aggressive moves, leveraging Kiryu’s incredible strength and flair to strike fear into enemies. Meanwhile, the Agent style allows players to deliver blows with absolute speed and precision while using high-tech gadgets like electrified bind wires to stun and dispatch foes. Players must strategically adapt to the situation and leverage both styles to dominate and destroy hordes of enemies.
For those eager to secure exclusive content, Sega is offering the Legendary Fighter Pack of Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name to players who pre-order the game on the Gaiden website.
