The indie narrative puzzle game by developer Hilltop Studios and publisher Versus Evil, Lil’ Guardsman, has just been revealed to launch soon this 2023 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

Lil’ Guardsman features a deduction adventure set in a high-fantasy world where players will take on the role of Lil, an unlikely 12-year-old who was suddenly tasked to be in charge of the guard shed at the castle gate of the kingdom of Sprawl. As a guardsman, Lil will decide if the elves, goblins, and over 100 other characters should be admitted inside the kingdom. Lil’ Guardsman is inspired by the classic point-and-click genre and includes some gameplay mechanics of the acclaimed immigration inspector simulation game, Papers, Please. It is revealed to have a comedic sensibility reminiscent of Monkey Island and other great LucasArts adventure classics from the 1990s.

The players’ decisions in Lil’ Guardsman will be crucial, as the character they let inside the castle gates will have a significant effect on the fate of the kingdom. Luckily, players will have access to several tools that they may strategically deploy to admit or deny the right character.

Players may earn gold through their successful interrogation of characters and they may use this to power up their guardsman toolkit. In the event that the player has unwittingly let a wrong character into the kingdom, they may use the trusty Chronometer3000 to rewind time and get a higher score, but they must also be careful not to break space and time in the process.

You may add Lil’ Guardsman to your Steam wishlist now to be notified when it is released.
