Sugar Shack, an upcoming sim and management game inspired by Quebec’s lore and artwork, has just been announced by indie dev team MadLife. A release window hasn’t been set. However, today’s new trailer revealed that Sugar Shack will be available on the Epic Games Store and Steam, where curious fans can wishlist the game now:

Sugar Shack’s trailer hints at a perfectly cozy game. And although it flaunts many of the same obligatory mechanics seen in similar farming and sim games, it does have a surprising flavor, and it isn’t just the syrupy premise.

While centering an entire game on syrup is surely unique, it’s probably still going to function the same way other farming sims do. But Quebec’s folklore is truly a niche path, and it should spark a lot of interest in its art style and lore.

It should also provide all kinds of new opportunities for magic, which really does flourish when it’s influenced by tangible historical influence. Norse mythology has inundated the entire industry from indies to AAA titles alike. And that can be very entertaining, but it’s nice to see a variety.

Sugar Shack’s official Steam page references specific tales from Quebec, and how they are directly woven into the game’s content. It also mentions how the art design is inspired by rich oil paintings, giving the game a homemade and calming facade.

Sugar Shack will also support up to four player cooperative gameplay, which is a rare feature in any game these days. The overall tone is both friendly and literally sweet, and blends together many of the most appealing mechanics from different simulation sub-genres. It has tremendous potential, and the art design justifies the graphics limited by indie funding.
