MTG: Arena only just released the Streets of New Capenna set, but the game is already scheduling new updates and a “Rise of the Five Families” festival event.
The game’s official twitter account barely scratches the surface of all the new, upcoming content:
Alchemy has received a fair share of hate for its missteps, since the point of the format is to deliberately re-balance existing cards and create digital-only effects.
There were more than a few problems with Streets of New Capenna cards, which isn’t very inviting for a new set that has already distanced some purists. Players can finally expect some fixes alongside the general balance changes.
The Explorer format, which recently launched on April 21st, will receive the Explorer Metagame Challenge between May 6th and May 9th, 2022. Winning best-of-three matches will earn you both gold and packs from the new New Capenna set.
Magic the Gathering Tournament updates
Both sealed and player draft variants of a new Arena Open will begin on May 14th and 15th, featuring cards from New Capenna. Arena also made it easier to earn more gems on Day One. Players who enter should automatically get the exclusive Urabrask, Heretic Praetor card style.
On May 21st, players will be treated to the first Qualifier Play-In event. Securing six total wins will get you into the Qualifier Weekend on May 28th. Premier Play gives players the chance to enter the championship, which currently has a prize pool of $200,000.
Rise of the Five Families Festival
Beginning May 12th, players have the chance to win golden age card styles, through winning best-of-one matches in Alchemy Singleton.
That can be tricky, since Singleton only allows you to have one copy of each non-land card in your deck, and the New Capenna meta hasn’t quite settled.
These event matches will feature emblems from each of the five families, beginning with the Maestros. Their emblem will allow players to sacrifice a creature to cast spells from the graveyard, but used spells are exiled for balanced play.
So, be sure to catch the new event and tournaments soon. And since alchemy is always subject to change, it’s worth reconsidering.
