The iconic sci-fi franchise, Halo, is getting a new tabletop combat game, made possible by UK-based tabletop studio Mantic Games. The news came to light through an official announcement on Mantic Games’ website, revealing its partnership with 343 Industries.

The new Halo board game promises to bring Halo multiplayer battles to life in an ‘expertly crafted team combat game’ experience for both tabletop newcomers and veterans. The game will launch directly to retail later this year, in September 2024

John Friend, Head of Halo and Xbox Consumer Products, expressed his excitement regarding the collaboration, saying, “We are thrilled to team up with Mantic Games to bring a new Halo tabletop game to fans in 2024. Mantic is a leader in tabletop gaming, and their quality and experience show through in all their work. I’m most excited in this case about their passion for the Halo franchise and for bringing Halo gameplay to tabletop gaming in an incredibly authentic way.”

Ronnie Renton, CEO, and Founder of Mantic Games, is just as excited about the partnership, stating, “We’re extremely excited to be partnering with 343 Industries on bringing Halo to tabletops everywhere. Having a firefight play out on the table while moving Spartans in and out of cover connects players to the action in a new and special way. We have a thrilling and competitive game, from a passionate team of talented sculptors, artists, and designers who have been building an incredible Halo experience.”

A few tabletop games based on the Halo franchise have already been released since the launch of Halo 3. The most recent among them is Halo: Ground Command, a tabletop game created by Spartan Games that was released to distributors on July 20, 2016, and to customers on July 27, 2016. Ground Command is set in the year 2552 and takes place during the Fall of Reach. Unfortunately, the production of Ground Command was discontinued after Spartan Games closed down in 2017.

Fans who missed out on the discontinued Halo: Ground Command can finally look forward to the return of the franchise to tabletops, thanks to Mantic Games. Adding to the excitement, Mantic Games is set to offer a preview of the new Halo board game in March 2024.
