The first-person recursive puzzle game, Maquette, is slated to launch for Nintendo Switch next month. Developed by Graceful Decay and published by Annapurna Interactive, Maquette was first made available for PlayStation consoles and PC via Steam back in 2021.

Maquette immerses players in a world where the lines between size and scale are distorted. Buildings, plants, and objects exist simultaneously in both minuscule and colossal forms, reminiscent of the fascinating artistry of MC Escher. As players venture deeper into the game’s world, they will experience a sense of grandeur, towering above structures and walls at the center. However, as they explore further, the surroundings grow exponentially, shrinking players in comparison until even the smallest cracks in the ground become vast chasms.
Maquette tells the modern-day love story of the charming couple Kenzie and Michael, voiced by renowned actors Bryce Dallas Howard and Seth Gabel. Through the lens of their relationship, the game explores how seemingly trivial issues can evolve into insurmountable barriers, driving the narrative forward. As players solve intricate puzzles, they will unravel the intertwined stories of Kenzie and Michael, delving deeper into their emotional journey.
Upon its initial release, Maquette has been met with a great deal of mixed reviews, most of which are critical of how the story was delivered. Although the game boasts beautiful environments and decent puzzles, some considered it to be not worth its price.
Technical issues, such as soft locking, have also been reported by some players. It is hoped that these issues have been addressed in the Nintendo Switch version, offering a seamless and enjoyable experience for players on this platform. In any case, Maquette provides a distinct and visually mesmerizing adventure combined with intricate physics-based puzzles, making it a recommended choice for fans of the genre.
