Marvel Snap is preparing for a considerable balance update this July 20. Key cards such as Kitty Pryde, Hit-Monkey, and Spider-Ham are at the center of this anticipated shift, primarily affecting the ‘Bounce’ deck strategy that has become significant in the game’s metagame.
The ‘Bounce’ deck has achieved notable recognition within the player community for its adaptability and the competitive edge it provides. Notably, its potential to win with a variety of card combinations has been at the forefront of recent discussions. This impressive effectiveness of the ‘Bounce’ deck has driven the development team at Marvel Snap to plan a series of alterations that will target shared elements across different versions of the strategy.
Specifically, Kitty Pryde, who has been a top-performing card within all ‘Bounce’ decks, is a key target for these changes. Currently, Kitty has the power to shape how other decks approach the matchup, driving new combinations like Invisible Woman and Killmonger into the metagame. Under the proposed adjustments, Kitty Pryde’s power ceiling will decrease significantly, while the overall gameplay balance will be maintained by raising her power floor when drawn on later turns.
Hit-Monkey, another strong performer in the ‘Bounce’ decks, is also due for alterations. Marvel Snap’s development team plans to increase Hit-Monkey’s energy requirements, thereby reducing his overall efficiency and deterring players from deploying him early in the game for additional value. This decision aims to maintain elegance in the gameplay while subtly reducing the power of the ‘Bounce’ strategy.
Spider-Ham, despite being a broadly useful card in several decks, has seen most of its play within the ‘Bounce’ strategy. As the third strongest card in the ‘Bounce’ deck, Spider-Ham’s efficiency will be reduced to balance its impact on various high-cost card-based strategies. This change is expected to decrease the play rate of Spider-Ham while addressing concerns regarding its influence on archetypes revolving around high-cost cards like She-Hulk, Death, and Apocalypse.
