Marvel Snap, the hit digital card game from developer Second Dinner Studios, has just released lengthy patch notes that detail all of today’s new changes. This includes major balancing changes, bug fixes, shop updates, and a seasonal Series Drop for key characters. Here’s the announcement from Marvel Snap’s official Twitter feed:

To begin with, the series changes are definitely going to be the highlight of today’s update. Although one of the strengths of Marvel Snap is that matches only take a couple of minutes, it can still be a tough grind to reach those higher pools.

Fortunately, five cards were dropped from Series 4 to 3, which is one more than last season’s drop. But even more surprising, players will now be able to unlock one free Series 3 card every month. The game already does a better job of omitting incentives for in-game purchases, than most comparable titles. But this is definitely a nice gesture, encouraging fans to invest their time rather than their wallets.

Setting M’baku to Series 3 is going to please a lot of fans, since they happen to be a beloved character to begin with. But his thematic ability also makes it easy to get a quick power boost when you’re busy playing your most powerful cards on the last turn.

Meanwhile, some of these balancing changes might be a little divisive, since they are mostly composed of nerfs. Thanos will have his power reduced by one, but even characters that don’t play as large a role in the meta will be nerfed. It remains to be seen if these updates will only affect the higher tier players.

Also, the bug fixes mainly address VFX, though it was certainly nice for revisiting players to have Battle Mode cleared up. It would be ideal if the next season smooths over some of the broader technical hiccups.
