Marvel’s Midnight Suns, the hit strategy RPG from developer Firaxis Games and publisher 2K Games, has just released a new cinematic and gameplay trailer for an upcoming Venom DLC. The expansion will be available next week on February 23rd, 2023. You can watch today’s full “Redemption” trailer on the official Marvel’s Midnight Suns YouTube channel here:

Venom remains one of Marvel’s most visually and morally compelling characters, and their anti-hero streak makes them a perfect playable addition to Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

Today’s trailer did a fantastic job of balancing narrative weight with actual gameplay, so that each of the highly anticipated abilities is rooted in fun storytelling. There was a surprising amount of narration, addressing Venom’s previous role in the game and their potential future.

Naturally, glimpses of the upcoming Hero abilities were a highlight of today’s trailer. According to the trailer description, Venom will bring 10 new Hero abilities in total. The animations that were revealed today do seem to successfully capture the kind of controlled chaos of Venom’s ferocious personality.

Deadpool has probably been stealing the show for most players since he was first teased last October. But it is nice to have something so deeply tied into the plot, and it opens the door for other villains to join the team sometime.

Although the Venom DLC is available in the Season Pass, you’ll still be able to purchase it individually, which is always nice. The Whisper Web upgrade to the Abbey also looks promising.

Overall, the new expansion looks pretty ambitious, and doesn’t simply shoehorn a fan favorite character for a quick cash grab. Marvel’s Midnight Suns is pacing itself well, so hopefully future updates continue to reserve major character additions until it feels equally sensible and effective to do so.
