Insomniac Games’ upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine game may be much darker than its Spider-Man titles, according to a new report. While we want to be speculative, it would make a lot of sense if true.

The report comes from known leaker Daniel Richtman (Thanks Insider Gaming), who claims that the game will not only be released in 2025 but will also feature a “darker” and “more violent” tone than past games from the studio.

Richtman also claims that the game will be set in Madripoor, a Southeast-Asian city within the Marvel universe. If it is set in the bustling metropolis of Madripoor then it’d make sense to make things darker. This is a haven for criminals and outcasts and ripe for navigating the city’s treacherous alleyways and uncovering hidden secrets.

While a release date hasn’t been confirmed by Insomniac or Sony, one thing that is known is that Wolverine is in the same universe as the Spider-Man games from the studio. When it does launch, Wolverine will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, similar to the aforementioned Spider-Man titles.

A darker and more violent tone for a Wolverine game would be fitting for the character, who is known for his berserker rage and penchant for violence. Madripoor is also a fitting setting for such a game, as it is a dangerous and lawless place.

This could be a much more intense experience than Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The iconic mutant is known for his brutal combat, dark past, and aggressive behavior. I imagine that Wolverine’s adamantium claws will highlight his feral fighting style, engaging in visceral and satisfying combat encounters. The game will likely delve into Wolverine’s rich and complex history, unraveling the mysteries of his past and exploring the psychological depths of this tormented hero.

I would love to see Wolverine really dived into, the guy has gone through some tough situations. We’ll have to see how things play out though.
