Pax Dei, an upcoming social sandbox MMO from developer and publisher Mainframe Industries, has been revealed today with a new trailer and in-depth announcement video. While a release window was not confirmed, you will be able to wishlist the game on Steam now. Here’s the full cinematic reveal trailer from the game’s official YouTube channel, which shows off the lore and setting:
Today’s reveal trailer was surprisingly quiet and patient. Instead of quickly edited hype trailers, the action is shrouded in mystery, while the worldbuilding is front and center, all set to serene music.
Like any MMO, Pax Dei aims to be as intensely immersive as possible, and the Unreal Engine build will certainly help in that regard. However, the MMO genre generally thrives on endless content and lore.
The devs working on Pax Dei appear to be far more interested in the social aspects, and even begin that way in the announcement video that accompanied their reveal trailer. You can watch that lengthy video here:
One of the key highlights from the announcement video is the plan to support other platforms after the PC launch. The devs acknowledge how much more accessible this will be, when most MMOs build their core fanbase and future with PC.
The devs go on to emphasize community construction in peaceful areas and extensive customization options. But there will be no shortage of adventure, either. It’s quite an ambitious world, which lives and breathes on its own, but also boasts some procedurally generated content.
In the announcement video, the devs also talk about Pax Dei as a twenty-year game, which is incredibly ambitious for any title. But the setting and magical elements have plenty of room to grow, and the devs are distinctly encouraging players to build their own future with Pax Dei’s freedom. But regardless of all the mechanics, Pax Dei should simply please any fans of Arthurian mythology.
