The upcoming souls-like action RPG by developer Still Running and publisher Merge Games, Morbid: The Lords of Ire, received a new spotlight trailer as part of the recent MIX Direct Spring 2023 Showcase.
Morbid: The Lords of Ire is the second installment in the Morbid game series, following on from its isometric pixel-art predecessor, Morbid: The Seven Acolytes. In this game, players will experience a bloody twist on the souls-like genre with its eerie setting filled with abysmal monsters and gore.
In the new Morbid: The Lords of Ire trailer, which aired at The MIX Direct Spring 2023 Showcase, Simo Talasranta, Writer/Composer/Sound Designer at Still Running, discussed the inspirations that led the developers to switch to a 3D format. As revealed in the trailer, many of the key features from the previous Morbid game will make a return in Morbid: The Lords of Ire, but with much more complexity and variety. These key features include the perk-based player upgrade system, rune-based weapon upgrade system, as well as the Insanity system.
The combat mechanics in Morbid: The Lords of Ire have also received extensive focus and improvement. Both the Striver and her enemies have been equipped with vast and highly responsive move sets in order to provide diverse combat engagements with a variety of thrilling methods to resolve them. In addition to these revamped basic elements, the Striver boasts over 10 distinct weapon classes with unique wielding stars and combinations to use in combat, as well as a one-of-a-kind firearm, the Spectral Blaster.
Morbid: The Lords of Ire will also have a cast of memorable characters, quests, looting, new game plus modes, and a law-packed world filled with abysmal creatures and gore galore.
Morbid: The Lords of Ire‘s specific release date has yet to be announced, but it is confirmed to launch later this year on consoles and PC via Steam.
