Meta, the virtual reality giant behind Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro VR headsets, has announced that a new Meta Quest Gaming Showcase is officially slated for June 1st, 2023. There will be exclusive game reveals “and more”, hinting at other potential updates like DLC and ports.
Meta will include both a pre-show and after-show, but the official showcase begins at 10 AM pacific time. Fans can tune into the new pre-show at 9:45 AM pacific time, which is expected to include “even more trailers”. Following the showcase, VR content creators will help break down all of the reveals, but specific names haven’t been confirmed.
There was a brief cinematic teaser for the showcase on the Meta Quest YouTube channel, though it doesn’t reveal anything in particular:
Meta has already held a couple of Gaming Showcases. Over the last two years, the 2021 and 2022 Meta Gaming Showcase both lasted around half an hour, and only featured a handful of games. Fans can likely expect more of the same, although the pre-show and after-show could add new material.
These showcases are tightly paced and focus on gaming rather than actual hardware, which has appealed to fans compared to traditional tech-driven presentations. Hopefully, there will be some welcome surprises like the Among Us VR trailer from last year.
The new pre-show feels like it may have been reserved for simpler honorable mentions, despite the promise of trailers. But it’s still unclear how important the pre-show could be, since the 2021 showcase kicked off with a Resident Evil 4 announcement.
MetaQuest recently teased v53 in a new blog and accompanying tweet last week, so it’d be interesting if the showcase included a bit more about platform features like those:
