Music is set to play a pivotal role in Mewgenics, an upcoming game developed by the creator of The Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy, and The End is Nigh. In this distinctive game where players breed, train, and set cats on epic adventures, the soundtrack provides a rich auditory experience, taking players on a journey through an array of musical landscapes as they navigate the chaotic world.
Mewgenics is poised to offer players a deep level of engagement with the promise of hundreds of hours of gameplay, six or more different classes each with over fifty unique abilities, a range of hundreds of unique items, and the opportunity to hoard an array of enchanted furniture. The game requires players to level up their team, collect distinctive items, defeat formidable bosses, and acquire mutations.
However, the game’s narrative and challenges are just part of the picture. The soundtrack of Mewgenics is another integral aspect of the gaming experience. Each chapter of the game has a unique music track, with alternative versions tailored to various submenus including map, event, and combat segments. The music for these submenus is designed to crossfade seamlessly, enhancing the game’s fluidity and pacing.
Music also plays a key role during the game’s climactic moments, with special lyrical tracks dedicated to the boss fights that conclude each chapter. In contrast, during the home hub portion of the game – where players care for their cats, hoard furniture, and upgrade game mechanics – a selection of house tracks add a different auditory dimension.
An additional layer to the musical experience comes in the form of a radio station that plays while players are in house mode. The radio station, hosted by a voice familiar to players, randomly selects radio bumpers during gameplay, providing an atmosphere of a dynamic radio environment.
The developers recently shared a version of an earlier teased track with radio bumpers by Matthias Bossi of Ridiculon, offering a glimpse into the game’s extensive soundtrack. With 20 house tracks already completed and the potential for more to be added by the end of development, the musical offering of Mewgenics is set to be as rich and varied as its gameplay.
As Mewgenics steadily progresses towards its release goal in the summer of 2024, the developers have assured that they are on track, with an estimated 12 to 15 months of development time remaining.
