Microsoft Certification Is Why Xbox Palworld Is Behind PC According To Developer

Xbox Palworld lags behind PC due to Microsoft's lengthy update certification process, developer reveals.

Pocketpair, the developer behind the recently successful open-world survival game Palworld, has explained why the game’s Xbox and Microsoft Store versions are currently missing features and fixes available on the Steam version.

The discrepancy has caused confusion and frustration among players, who noticed differences in crafting speeds, available options, sound effects, audio quality, and even a missing exit button on the Xbox/Microsoft Store release.

As found by Windows Central, according to Pocketpair’s community manager, Bucky, the reason for the missing features is not due to an older build on Xbox but rather Microsoft’s update certification process. Unlike Steam, where updates can be deployed more quickly, Xbox updates require approval from Microsoft, which can take additional time.

Bucky emphasized that Pocketpair is “desperately trying to speed this up” but acknowledged that the developer is currently “at the mercy of the certification here.” The community manager also clarified that different underlying architectures between the platforms may mean Steam and Xbox versions will never share identical version numbers, even when all versions have identical gameplay.

It is hard to say that this is wrong or inherently bad. Microsoft has a duty to its consumers to check all updates, and Steam is a bit more open with how updates work. At this point, Pocket Pair isn’t going to ruin their game, so it’s questionable why they’d still need to be checked. However, it’s what is best for the consumer, even if Xbox players are missing so many features. Thanks to the comments on a Reddit Thread, we know that these features are some of the ones currently missing:

  • Considerably faster crafting
  • Three Arrows every craft
    • Annoyingly, you only get one per stack
  • Using Technology Points to unlock Statues of Power
    • You need Ancient Technology Points right now
  • The ability to name your character
  • The ability to rename Pals
  • Some sound effects are missing
  • Higher quality audio
  • An exit button to close the game
    • This mostly affects the Microsoft Store version

While details about the certification process were shared on Discord, some players believe Pocketpair should have communicated the situation more openly through official channels. Players are promised an Xbox/Microsoft Store update, but Pocketpair isn’t sure when all features will be on both versions.
