Mika and the Witch’s Mountain, an upcoming adventure RPG indie from developers Chibig and Nukefist, also published by Chibig, has revealed a new trailer. Along with new footage, it features the charming song “The Chapel” by Madilyn Mei.
Mika and the Witch’s Mountain doesn’t have a concrete release window confirmed just yet. It’s expected to be available on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox. You can watch today’s new trailer on the official Chibig YouTube channel here:
Mika and the Witch’s Mountain is a hidden gem that draws immediate comparisons to Kiki’s Delivery Service, the beloved 80’s film from Hayao Miyazaki. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
Today’s trailer is remarkably cute, full of bright visuals and adorable characters. The animation is also on point, with a little more polish than expected.
The music at the center of the new trailer is bouncy and relaxing, which is a nice way to establish the tone of the game. It is also distinguishable from the upbeat opening tune on Kiki’s radio.
There is absolutely no doubt that Mika and the Witch’s Mountain promises to be one of the most delightful, soothing, and entertaining indie adventures this year. The world feels vast and worth exploring, and the flying mechanics look smooth enough to enjoy all on their own. These features should keep the deliveries from feeling too redundant, by maintaining a sense of discovery.
The game’s official Steam page announced earlier this month that the Kickstarter campaign helped the devs include other key mechanics like pets and companions. It’ll be tough to find a character as memorable as Jiji, but that companionship played a large role in Kiki’s Delivery Service and it fits in perfectly with Mika and the Witch’s Mountain.
