After over a five-year journey since it was first revealed, Minecraft Dungeons has officially concluded its development. This means that the RPG dungeon crawler spin-off title to the beloved sandbox video game, Minecraft, will no longer receive any new features or content updates in the future.

Minecraft Dungeons made its debut in May 2020, launching on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One, and later arriving on Xbox Series X|S in February 2021. It was even adapted into an arcade video game by Raw Thrills and was released in May 2021. Today, Minecraft Dungeons has officially reached the end of its development, prompting a heartfelt statement from the teams at Mojang Studios and Double Eleven, as they took a moment to share their thoughts on this monumental chapter via the Minecraft website.

Minecraft Dungeons began as a passion project, inspired by our love of classic dungeon crawler games, and reimagined as a completely new Minecraft experience. But it was the love of our players that made it grow and thrive, allowing us to continue the adventure and venture further into the Nether, the End, and eventually the mysterious Tower. It exceeded our wildest dreams, and it makes us both proud and grateful for having had the pleasure of building a game together with a community like this one.”

Over the years, Minecraft Dungeons reached a remarkable milestone, amassing a player base of over 25 million players. However, the game eventually faced a decline in its player numbers due to a lack of new content. Unfortunately, the most recent update, patch 1.17, released in November 2022, marks the end of updates for Minecraft Dungeons.

On a positive note, Mojang and Double Eleven have revealed that the development teams have moved on to new projects, promising to continue bringing exciting experiences within the Minecraft universe.
