Polyscape, the game developer behind MISTROGUE: Mist and the Living Dungeons, has announced that the roguelike action JRPG will be available in Early Access for PC via Steam starting April 24. A demo of the game is already available for players to get a taste of the unique gameplay experience.
MISTROGUE: Mist and the Living Dungeons introduces players to a new kind of strategic roguelike action game, featuring living dungeons whose structures change in real time. The game’s dynamically generated rooms and passages may also set traps, leading players into dangerous encounters with monsters. As they navigate these living dungeons, players will need to rely on their equipment, skills, and the Maze Stone, a key item that allows them to alter the dungeon’s structure.
The game’s story begins 500 years ago when a kingdom faced destruction by an impending calamity. To save their kingdom, mages sealed the calamity within a maze and cast a forbidden spell that altered the maze’s shape. The kingdom survived, but the magic eventually seeped into the kingdom itself, transforming it into a living dungeon. Five centuries later, a young treasure hunter named Mist, who resides in Lootgar, embarks on a journey to unravel the mystery of the kingdom’s fate.
MISTROGUE’s living dungeons provide a high replay value, as they constantly change and generate new rooms and passages. Players must quickly decide whether to delve deeper, risk traps for rare loot, or escape. They can also use the Maze Stone to modify the dungeon’s structure to their advantage, creating new paths and rooms.
In addition to the ever-changing environment, the game features a variety of equipment and unique active and passive skills that allow players to create powerful skill builds. Players can find endless combinations of weapons, shields, and bracelets to achieve various effects, such as dealing massive single-shot damage or delivering rapid bursts of damage to multiple enemies. Trading with Lupo, a wandering trader, is also crucial for completing skill builds.
MISTROGUE offers a combat system where strategy and action coexist. Players must use different skills, such as attacking, dodging, defense buffs, and healing, based on enemy behavior. They also need to manage recast times and MP consumption while combining these skills. Time slows down when opening the item inventory, allowing players to carefully consider using special items and adjusting their equipment based on the situation.
The game also includes a vast array of item drops, with thousands of possible combinations, ensuring that players will always be on the hunt for rare items and legendary weapons. From ordinary monsters to powerful bosses, MISTROGUE seeks to keep players engaged with its dynamic dungeon exploration and strategic combat system.
