Monster Menu: The Scavenger’s Cookbook, an upcoming dungeon-crawler and strategy RPG from NIS America, has just released a new trailer announcing that it will launch in late May 2023. It will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. No plans for an Xbox port have been announced.

Strangely, today’s trailer ends with a release date for May 26th, while the trailer description states it will launch on May 23rd, 2023. At this time, there’s been no clarification or fix for the discrepancy. But the game will arrive in late May. Notably, the Twitter account for NISAinEurope reinforced the later release date for the 26th:

Monster Menu: The Scavenger’s Cookbook is truly one of the most bizarre and compelling titles from NIS America, and they have been known for some very quirky characters.

There’s a slightly twisted sense of humor here that may not appeal to everyone. However, for those who enjoy something a little odd, Monster Menu: The Scavenger’s Cookbook will surely deliver. For example, the Limited Edition that’s available on the NIS America store will actually include a full apron.

Also, the game sort of pokes fun at general RPG mechanics, as seen in Monster Hunter where players acquire resources from slain creatures. It’s common across the genre, and often overlooked as an obligatory mechanic.

This game will definitely make a perfect fit for the Nintendo Switch and mobile gaming. However, Monster Menu: The Scavenger’s Cookbook doesn’t rely on theme alone. Its fundamental mechanics look genuinely interesting anyway, so it isn’t just a novelty act that could quickly become boring. The actual cooking has some inventive ideas for players who enjoy the genre.
