MotoGP 23, the next anticipated installment in the hit racing series from developer and publisher Milestone S.r.l., will officially launch on June 8th, 2023. It will be available on PC via Steam, the Nintendo Switch, and current or last gen consoles for PlayStation and Xbox fans. You can watch the full announcement trailer on the official PlayStation YouTube channel here:
Today’s new trailer was surprisingly light on actual gameplay, though in-game footage was used. That may disappoint fans who were hoping for a little more, since Milestone hasn’t released very much lately, focusing on a sixth Monster Energy Supercross game.
However, many of the cinematics revealed today do look absolutely gorgeous. The slightest textures have very good detail, though convincing faces remain elusive. All of the work in Unreal has paid off with the environments, vehicles, and weather conditions.
Most of today’s trailer focused on the story off the track, centering on a rising star and their rivalry. Any elaborations on career mode would be terrific. Consequences, relationships, and interesting management mechanics add a lot more heft to your wins and losses.
The one mechanic that got a lot of love from the fans is the glimpse of flag-to-flag racing. This has been a highly requested feature, which helps to shake up the series beyond visual spectacle like dynamic weather. However immersive and challenging rain could be for the track, new content is probably more likely to win over the fanbase.
Overall, MotoGP 23 looks like a decent step in the right direction, as the series continues to expand in creative new ways. This series sometimes falls a little under the radar, despite all of its praise, but it still looks to remain a solid contender in the genre.
