Naraka: Bladepoint, the martial arts-inspired battle royale from 24 Entertainment and NetEase Games Global, will officially release the new hero Zai on June 1st, 2023. Today’s announcement came with a brand-new trailer featuring key cinematics and gameplay.
Naraka: Bladepoint is available now on PC and Xbox, and there’s still no word on the PlayStation 5 port. You can watch today’s new hero trailer on the Naraka: Bladepoint YouTube channel:
Surprisingly, Zai’s cinematic exclusively featured narration from her brother. It’s a bit disappointing, but it does create a sense of mystery about her.
Also, the visuals themselves are absolutely stunning. Naraka: Bladepoint’s flair always comes through in its cinematic trailers. Zai’s showcase is no exception, with well-staged combat that maintains the gorgeous flow of martial arts despite her flashy abilities. The cinematic alone makes it clear that Zai will be a fun addition to the lore and meta.
And although the gameplay is carefully noted as a work in progress, Zai already looks promising. Her signature Chain Scythe, as seen in the cinematic, is sure to win over fans.
The gameplay reveals a remarkable sense of motion in its physics. The pace of its swinging is really on point, and the way Zai kicks it directly into her enemies is definitely going to feel rewarding every time it lands. Whipping the Chain Scythe around could have been very distracting visual noise, but its animation is very smooth, and seems very kinetic.
Her Chain Scythe: Suppress ability makes good use of it, Scorpion style, pulling in enemies and burning them. Alongside the brief immunity granted by Flame Ward, Zai’s kit is pretty impressive. She’s a worthwhile addition, even if she won’t shake up the meta all that much.
